Personal profile

Personal profile

Holder of a doctorate in civil engineering (2005) and an accreditation to supervise research (2014), Jean-Michel Pereira conducts his research in geomechanics and is mainly interested in issues related to energy production (geotechnical structures for heat exchange, geological storage of carbon dioxide, production of hydrocarbons, etc.). Professor at the national school of roads and bridges (2017), he teaches soil and rock mechanics as well as geotechnical deepening.

Research interests

  • Thermo-Hydro-Chemo-Mechanical couplings in fluids-filled geomaterials
  • Time effects in geomaterials
  • Finite Element modelling of coupled geomechanical problems
  • Geomechanics of CO2 sequestration
  • Methane hydrates bearing sediments
  • Geothermal piles
  • Offshore geotechnics (behaviour of deep marine sediments)
  • Nuclear waste disposals (THM modelling)
  • Embankments in areas liable to floodings (soil-atmosphere interactions)
  • Chalk carries (time effects and partial saturation)
