Valérie Fernandez is a Professor and Chair of Responsibility for Digital Identity Research (Thales sponsorship), as well as a member of the Executive Committee of the CNRS i3 laboratory and Director of the Master’s in Digital Innovation at Sciences Po (in partnership with Telecom Paris). As a specialist in digital economy, her research focuses on the socio-economic analysis of digital technologies (governance of digital innovation, market – economic value and user value – analysis, social acceptability). It is part of research projects for the European Commission and for various research organizations, both international (e.g. Cai Yuanpei China) and national (e.g. ANR). It aims to provide recommendations for public policies and for companies (development and experimentation of teleservices platforms, cloud computing solutions, facial recognition technologies, etc.). On these subjects, she has published about sixty research articles and academic books, and supervised about fifteen PhD theses (twelve defended; three in progress). As Director of the SES department at Telecom Paris (2013-2017), she was responsible for the creation and management of training programs (Master’s, Master of Science, Executive Master) in partnership with HEC, ESSEC, Ecole Polytechnique and Sciences Po. She was Vice-President of the academic society AIM (2006-2010), member of the Scientific Council of the FNEGE, and Scientific Director of the i3F Chair – Frugal Engineering and Innovation – at the University of Paris-Saclay (2016-2019).
