4.10 - Larger Aromatic Complexes of the Group 3 Metals and Lanthanides

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This article describes the syntheses and the structural aspects of group 3 and lanthanide complexes with large aromatic ligands (C7-C9). The material discussed herein is divided into four sections, describing the cycloheptatrienyl, cyclooctatetraenyl, pentalenyl and cyclononatetraenyl-based complexes. Complexes based on the cyclooctatetraenyl ligand are numerous and the most represented among the four ligand systems. Therefore, the section devoted to this ligand is further organized depending on the nature of the metal center. The important properties of the lanthanide series, such as magnetism and luminescence, as well as the ability to form compounds with unusual oxidation states, are also discussed in line with the electronic configuration of the corresponding element.
