Abstract

We propose a novel scheme of a fiber-optic parametric amplifier (FOPA) with a weak signal, a strong pump, a control pump and a weak idler, to switch between high gain and low-noise operation modes by controlling the power of the control pump. We analytically investigate the gain and noise performance of the system for a range of control pump powers. The gain is evaluated using a multi-wave approach and the noise figure is calculated with a fully quantum approach.
