Abstract

The static dielectric properties of GaAs/AlAs superlattices were calculated as a function of their period. Density functional theory was used for the analysis. It was found that the interplay between quantum confinement and local field effects is crucial. It was observed that local field effects were responsible for the overall behavior of the anisotropy. Results showed that the quantum confinement effects were dominant in the in-plane direction.
