Abstract

Upon heating in chlorobenzene, propargylic xanthates 1 b & 1 c give the corresponding 4,5-bis(alkylidene)-1,3-dithiolan-2-one 6 which is captured in situ by a dienophile 4 to give the Diels Alder adduct 7.
