Abstract
An assessment of several opportunities and prospects for research on knowledge management in Europe is made. The European Union (EU) provides significant financial assistance and jointly works with research organizations of the region to encourage research projects on knowledge management. The EU jointly works with these organizations to conduct research in the concerned field, as it wants to establish a separate identity for the region. It is also encouraging co-operation among member states and public-private partnerships, to influence and continue research efforts in the field. It wants more co-operation and establishment of public-private partnerships, in an effort to decentralize research projects. Some of the approaches that have been adopted to conduct research in the field of knowledge management, include the knowledge engineering approach and the approach based on human factor.
