Abstract

A study was conducted on the propagation of femtosecond infrared beams exhibiting initially a single hump, with peak powers below 25 times critical. Emphasis was laid on two specific concerns. First, the global features in the propagation were examined and underlined three characteristic stages. Secondly, the early propagation of high power beams was detailed.
