N2 - We study the linear instabilities experienced by a relativistic electron beam passing through a plasma. We consider unstable modes for wave vectors arbitrarily oriented, treating the full electromagnetic dispersion equation. Using some simple waterbag distribution to model non-relativistic temperatures, we can single out the role of transverse and parallel beam and plasma temperatures. It is found that the maximum growth rate is found for an oblique wave vector, the corresponding unstable mode being almost unsensitive to any kind of non-relativistic temperature.
