Abstract

We analyse unitarity for a string theory based on an SU(1,1) Wess-Zumino-Witten model and d free bosons. We show that given an extra condition between the spin and the Kač-Moody anomaly analogous to the compact SU(2) one, positivity is guaranteed for physical states up to level two. Moreover extra zero-norm states appear at some critical value of d, corresponding to the anomaly cancellation. We discuss the construction of a modular invariant partition function.
