Comparative study of the oligomerization of C2-C6 olefins on HZSM-5

Abstract

Motor fuels can be produced via alkene oligomerization through homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysis. Two classes of solid catalysts can be used, acid catalysts, especially zeolites and supported Nickel catalysts. A process (MOGD) which makes use of ZSM-5 zeolite was developed by Mobil to transform with great flexibility olefins into gasoline or into distillate fuels. In this work, the transformation of a series of alkenes (ethylene, propene, 2-cis butene, isobutene and 1-hexene) was carried out on a HZSM-5 zeolite so as to compare their reactivities and the transformation schemes.
