Abstract

The methods to determine turbulent parameters in the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) with UHF wind profilers were discussed. The results of these methods were also compared with in situ measurements made by an aircraft during Turbulence Radar Aircraft Cells-98 (TRAC) experiment. It was found that the turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) dissipation rate measured by both instruments were well correlated with a slightly overestimation and underestimation of the UHF radar below and above 1.7Zi respectively. It was also found that momentum fluxes measured by the UHF profiler was the same order of magnitude that the aircraft ones.
