Abstract

Strain is not to blame: Controlled thermolysis of 1 afforded dibenzo-1-phosphasemibullvalene 2 (see scheme). This unstable compound can be stabilized as a ligand in the complex [W(CO)₅(2)]. Although the sum of bond angles at phosphorus (220°) is very small, 2 is only a little strained.
