Discrete Exterior Calculus for Variational Problems in Computer Vision and Graphics

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

The discrete exterior calculus (DEC) tools were developed for solving variational problems in computer vision and graphics. DEC included discrete differential forms, discrete vectors fields and the operators. The development of a discrete calculus, when combined with the methods of discrete mechanics, was discussed. Some example applications using variational problems from computer graphics and mechanics to demonstrate that formulating the problem discretely and using discrete methods for solution can lead to efficient algorithms were shown.
