Abstract

Discusses design considerations for the control plane of the B-ISDN network. We first introduce global requirements that any proposal for the control plane architecture must take into account. Such requirements may be considered as control plane invariants. Then we develop an information model for the B-ISDN control plane where the main service instance data and service support data required by control plane functions are described. Finally, and because this information model has to be distributed, we discuss this distribution and the mechanisms by which the control plane entities have access to this information.
