DODEX+: A new network coding scheme for mesh networks in mobile cloud computing

Abstract

Wireless access networks constitute an important part of mobile doud computing. Using mesh networks is a promising solution to quickly provide connectivity infrastructure for cloud service access. While mesh networks can be easily set up, the wireless nature of the links interconnecting mesh routers compromises the network performances. Network coding is a new technique for capacity enhancement in wireless networks. In a previous work, we have defined DODEX as a network coding scheme. In this paper, we propose a new network coding scheme called DODEX+, which is an extension of DODEX, to improve the performances of wireless mesh networks. The novelty of DODEX+ is the re-encoding of coded packets with other codable flows to maximize the coding chances. The simulation results show interesting gains in throughput and number of coded packets.
