Abstract
A pulse-shaping scheme is used to generate a femtosecond pulse pump-probe pair of slightly different wavelengths that copropagates in a polarization preserving single-mode fibre. Dispersive cross-phase modulation is observed and numerically simulated. A significant probe wavelength shift is experimentally observed as a function of the pump-probe time delay and compares well to numerical simulations. Application of these phenomena to all-optical switching is discussed.
