Elastoplastic analysis of reinforced soil structures using a multiphase approach

Abstract

This contribution is devoted to the numerical implementation of a multiphase approach for modelling the macroscopic behaviour of inclusion-reinforced soil systems. The emphasis is put on the elastoplastic behaviour of the soil and the reinforcements, as well as on the shear and bending characteristics of the latter, which may prevail in some situations, such as reinforced soil foundations subject to lateral loading. A preliminary computer code is thus set up, based on such numerical developments, which provides the first simulations concerning the response of a reinforced soil structure. The corresponding results are favorably compared with available analytical solutions in some reference cases.
