Abstract

A gas valve capable of independently controlling the gas pressure and composition in a three-layer puff is described. The valve is intended for use in Z-pinch experiments and provides a pressure of up to 105 Pa at the entrance of a supersonic jet nozzle with an outer puff diameter of up to 8 cm. The autonomous control is provided by a system of independent gas inlets for each layer. The azimuthal asymmetry is achieved by using mixers levelling the gas pressure at the nozzle entrance.
