Experimental characterization of space-time chaos in nonlinear optics

Abstract

We report on the characterization of two different states of space-time chaos based on correlation functions and on Karhunen-Loeve decomposition. The model system is an optical feedback loop closed through a nonlinear Kerr-like medium, in which different symmetries can be excited at threshold.
