Abstract

The effectiveness of plasma-induced incoherence (PII) in modifying the coherence properties of the laser beam was experimentally studied. The experiment used well-characterized undersense plasmas at various densities and random phase plate (RPP) beams with well-known statistical properties. Results show simultaneous and correlated large angular beam spreading and spectral broadening of the beam after propagation through the plasma.
