Abstract

The reaction 32S + 59Co has been studied at 180 MeV bombarding energy. Two δE - E telescopes have been employed to identify fragments emitted in coincidence at three different couples of angles. The data indicate that, even at the present low incident energy, a three-body emission occurs and that this ternary process originates in a two-step mechanism of the participant-spectator type. A three-body kinematical analysis indicates that the complex system formed in the first step decays after having equilibrated its energy.
