Abstract
Formation of electromagnetic postsolitons in laser irradiated plasmas was investigated using high-intensity ultrashort laser pulses. The plasma cavity forms a resonator for the trapped electromagnetic field and during the cavity expansion the amplitude and the frequency of the electromagnetic field decreases. It is found that when a strong electromagnetic wave propagates in a plasma, a portion of its energy is transformed into solitons which then form slowly expanding cavities in the distribution of the ion and electron densities with the electromagnetic field trapped inside.
