Abstract
The nonlinear waveguide mode to which light waves coupled with a multiphoton ionization (MPI) source evolve when they propagate through the atmosphere was identified. In particular, the peculiar nature of the temporal distribution of these new objects, termed as gas-induced solitons, was emphasized.
