Abstract
The feasibility and reliability of a multiple laser shock generation to study the equation of state surface off the principal Hugoniot curve and to approach an isentropic compression were discussed. It was observed that the technique was based on the use of a double laser pulse. The precompression was achieved by generating a first weak shock into the target. The multiple shock techniques were used for ICF research where they were of primary importance in achieving high gain as they make it possible to minimize the entropy increase during the compression.
