Abstract

The Hamiltonian structure of the simple slab model of toroidal electron temperature gradient (ETG) was analyzed. The symplectic Hamiltonian equations of motion were derived and the form of the Hamiltonian was found. The equations could be used to calculate the multiple wave coupling coefficients corresponding to the particular model and provided a compact reformulation of the problem. If the initial mean fields were sufficiently high, the Hamiltonian could be negative, thereby indicating the possibility of wave collapse.
