Abstract
Reading automatically handwritten documents is of great importance for desktop publishing, archiving and storage. The challenge is to provide a high level representation with which to manipulate the document from a scanned image. The document analysis and recognition research activity at Telecom Paris is oriented towards two goals. The first one is the segmentation of handwritten pages of document into text lines and the second one is the recognition of handwritten cursive words using a knowledge based strategy.
