Abstract

The impact of electrostriction in different soliton systems was investigated via numerical simulations. Focus was on realistic single-channel 40Gbit/s long-haul systems using either the techniques of in-line dispersion management (DM) or optical 3R regeneration for evaluating electrostriction-induced degradation of the system performance. Results suggest that electrostriction is an effect to be considered in the design of 40Gbit/s systems.
