Abstract

We study the electron energy spectrum resulting from the interaction of atomic hydrogen initially in the 2s state with an ultrashort laser pulse having a "pedestal", of the sort produced by chirped pulse amplification. As a first step, we treat this problem within second-order time-dependent perturbation theory. The effect of the pedestal is discussed in detail.
