Joint space-time coding and FEC for MDL mitigation in few-mode fiber systems

Abstract

We propose the concatenation of space-time coding and forward-error-correction to mitigate mode-dependent-loss in mode-division multiplexed optical systems. It is shown through numerical results that the obtained gain is the sum of both code gains.
