Abstract

This article deals with two prospective studies carried out by IGN and ENST. IGN's topics point on assessment of laser data and ENST studies the capabilities of aerial or spatial laser data to provide DSM. After a state of the art upon the running of the laser systems, some processing techniques in order to generate DSM will be presented. At last both assessment procedures and comparisons with correlation DSM will be presented. Bibliographic researches and experimental tests actually define the advantages of laser systems to derive quickly 3D data with a good altimetric accuracy. Nevertheless, using laser data separately, leads to inaccuracy especially around breaklines. Combining laser data with correlation data seems to be a priori an optimised solution to obtain fast an efficient 3D result.
