title = "Leveraging Proof-of-Authority Blockchain for Decentralized Certificate Revocation",
abstract = "Managing certificate revocation remains a recurring challenge in public key infrastructure (PKI). Existing solutions (CRLs and the OCSP protocol) involve compromises in terms of the speed of information distribution, availability, and user privacy. In addition, the phased-out use of the OCSP protocol by major certificate authorities has created an urgent need to address this gap. This paper presents a decentralized revocation architecture in which certificate authorities collectively manage a permissioned blockchain using a 'Proof-of-Authority' consensus mechanism. Based on Hyperledger Fabric, our system achieves deterministic finality within seconds, incurs no transaction fees, and distributes trust across multiple independent certificate authorities. An experimental evaluation involving up to 31 geographically dispersed CA nodes validates this approach at a scale compatible with current WebPKI operations.",
