Abstract
The long-range propagation in air of UV and IR femtosecond laser pulses with power above the threshold for self-focusing was investigated. UV filamentation was compared with IR filamentation and showed that the balance of the physical process supporting the filaments was identical in both the cases. Spectral data exhibited a large broadening in the IR filament and a limited one for UV, which justified the white-light generation associated with IR filamentation.
