Abstract

A local analysis of fracture in creeping materials, based upon a critical strain, is proposed. The process zone is modeled by a viscous strip and the elastic continuum by a double cantilever beam. Closed form solutions for the crack initiation time and the crack growth rate under various loading conditions are given.
