Abstract
A high-resolution inelastic neutron scattering experiment has been carried out in the α and Β low-temperature phases of solid oxygen. Direct comparison between the spectra of both phases as well as with previous experiments and lattice dynamics calculations, allow one to identify a feature appearing at ≈ 4.3 meV in the low Q region of the spectra as arising from the antiferromagnetic excitations, the existence of which had been postulated from optical work.
