Abstract
The experimental observation of bubblelike structures in proton images of laser-produced plasmas were reported. The plasmas were interpreted as the macroscopic remnants of solitons formed in the interaction with the ultraintense pulse. The bubbles appeared as the protons were deflected away by the localized electric field in correspondence of the cavitated areas. The interpretation was supported by computational and analytical results using particle-in-cell simulations.
