Abstract

The governance of biodiversity is now at the heart of tensions and negotiations between different institutions, and more specifically between departments dedicated to urban planning, land use, economic development and the environment. Given this observation, this chapter proposes to explore the way in which the issue of biodiversity is linked to urban policies, in order to think about the future of Bordeaux as an estuarine city. Within the framework of the BiodiverCité research-action project, a community of stakeholders from various backgrounds was brought together around a common issue: urban biodiversity. The BiodiverCité collaborative prospective approach has endeavored to make visible the effects of urbanization on the state of environments, by emphasizing the socio-political relationships that govern them. The chapter describes the stage of co-construction of a common knowledge base among the stakeholders on the socio-ecological functioning of the Bordeaux Metropolitan area.
