Models of hydrodynamic resonances in separated shear flows.

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The main objective of the paper is to present a possible scenario for the onset of global self sustained oscillations in spatially developing flows. The Ginzburg Lansau equation with varying coefficients, on a semi infinite domain or an infinite domain, is chosen as a model to illustrate a possible sequence of local and global bifurcations. The results appear to provide a qualitative explanation for the onset of hydrodynamic resonances in shear flows such as wakes or inhomogeneous jets.
