Abstract
This study addresses the issue of three-dimensional (3D) mesh geometry coding. Within a framework and under a bitrate control constraint, two production rules, the parallelogram and the polygonal rule, are evaluated. Following this, the two prediction rules are combined. By conducting simulations on 294 models of the Moving Picture Expert Group (MPEG) data set, it is established that an effective gain of up to 50% reduction of the distortion at a given bitrate can be obtained by using the cooperative scheme.
