New WDM DFB laser structure for facet phase-free uniform performances

Abstract

A new concept of antireflection coatings monomode distributed feedback laser structure that can be fabricated with standard processing techniques was proposed. The new concept combines small divergence, high output power and large SMSR, altogether with a fabrication yield similar to that of a Fabry-Perot lasers. A uniform monomode devices with a laser to laser reproducible SMSR of 44 dB at 3 mW were demonstrated. A facet external efficiency as high as 0.32 W/A at 1.55 μm altogether with a threshold of 14 mA was also demonstrated.
