Abstract
The signature of optical activity in the third order nonlinear response of an isotropic liquid of chiral molecules is examined. A general calculation is performed to determine the existence of a nonlinear circular dichroism. Using simple classical calculations based on anharmonic oscillators in the Kuhn or Kauzmann models, the impact of the origin of the optical activity on a pump/probe study is determined. The study is carried out on a Ruthenium-tris(bipyridyl) salt with a 1 kHz femtosecond optical parametric amplifier operating at 470 nm and the polarization is modulated by a Pockels cell.
