Abstract

The single longitudinal mode operation of Er:Yb:Glass micropchip lasers with large net gain bandwidth was discussed. An experimental technique for the investigation of coupling between longitudinal modes or polarization eigenstates in microchip lasers was developed. The losses were modulated to investigate the coupling between the modes while the coupling between two eigenstates was probed by employing a polarized feedback scheme.
