Abstract

A supercritical radiative shock experiment performed with the LULI nanosecond laser facility was discussed. The propagation of a strong shock with a radiative precursor was evidenced by using targets filled with xenon gas at low pressure. It was found that the experimental results were in correlation with numerical simulations. The results show that the measured value of velocity (D) was close to the numerical one.
