Abstract

OpenFEM is an opensource toolbox designed to allow effective finite element computations within the "matrix computing environments" MATLAB and SciLAB. The advantages of performing finite element computations in the MATLAB / SCILAB environments are very attractive: ease of postprocessing for the results and of interfacing with other software; increased flexibility in the development; ease of distribution for software and methodologies, and so on. In addition, the OpenFEM toolbox is specifically designed to provide a computational effectiveness comparable to standalone finite element packages including for large scale problems, and contains state-of-the-art finite element formulations.
