Abstract

The Passerini adducts of various electron-rich aromatic aldehydes with pivalic acid were used as electrophiles towards indoles in a Friedel-Crafts-type reaction. The Friedel-Crafts step was performed under microwave conditions using a catalytic amount of FeCl₃.
