'Relativistic λ3' regime: From relativistic electrons to relativistic ions

Abstract

Lasers that provide a focal volume of a few cubic wavelengths (λ3) create relativistic intensity with maximal gradients, using minimal energy. Simulations indicate that millijoule- and joule-scale laser can generate relativistic electrons and ions, respectively.
