Abstract

The following article from Chemistry—A European Journal, Predicting New Ugi-Smiles Couplings: A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Study by Romain Ramozzi, Nicolas Chéron, Laurent El Kaim, Laurence Grimaud and Paul Fleurat-Lessard, published online on June 5, 2014 in Wiley Online Library (http://www.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/10.1002/chem.201400336) and in print (Chem. Eur. J. 2014, 20, 9094–9099), has been retracted by agreement between the authors, the journal Editor-in-Chief, Neville Compton, and Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA. The retraction has been agreed due to the fact that the authors have not been able to reproducibly obtain the starting nitroso derivatives used to confirm the results of the theoretical study. Under all sets of conditions, the authors could only obtain overoxidized products with nitrophenols as the main compounds. This sheds doubt on the structure of the nitroso Ugi-Smiles adducts claimed to have been prepared in the paper. The authors apologise for the inconvenience to the readers and the journal.
