Abstract

The propagation and self-trapping of ultrashort infrared (IR) laser pulses in fused silica were studied over several Rayleigh lengths. The long range filamentation examined covered spectral braodening and pulse breaking with two or more shorter subpulses. A quasidynamic equilibrium between self-focusing and multiphoton ionization (MPI) performed an important role in the filamentation process.
