Abstract

In this paper the breaking of gauge symmetry by radiative corrections in d=3 field theories is studied. The incorporation of fermions leads to domains in the space of coupling constants in which spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) occurs and to the possibility of symmetry restoration at low temperatures. The effect of the Chern-Simons terms in the scalar effective potential and the gauge-dependence problem is discussed.
