Abstract
It is shown by means of quantum trajectory simulations that two different types of collective behavior are possible in the overdamped many-atom micromaser. Depending on the parameters, the micromaser can either superradiate or subradiate. This alternative corresponds to positive or negative correlations between the dipole moments of individual intracavity atoms. We perform simulations with realistic parameters to show that superradiance and subradiance should be observable with available experimental setups.
